A life in a day

I managed to get a long lie in today, having had a rather exhausting week. Study Day for the new student intake on Friday in Edinburgh, and was persuaded to hit the clubs after dinner, so a VERY late night! The sun had come back from Alpha Centauri, and wiped away the rain (like isky wisky spider!) so I had a go at the quad bike, but still having probs with the gearing so I will take advice tomorrow.

Started baking for the Flower and Produce Show next week. Whisky Fruit Cake today, so that it gets a chance to mature a bit. Wanted to do the gingerbread, but ran out of eggs, so had to wait for Sue to arrive with some from her hens.

I sorted out my presentation for Tuesday in Inverness, and I’m working on the one for RSPSG for September. I also have to get the paper ready for KL, and one for the conference here at the end of September, so I will be glued to the computer for the next wee while. Rumer gets fed up when I sit writing, and comes and nudges me when she thinks I should be taking her out.

I did manage to get to the Fringe this year, and had a really good evening on Thursday, with Barry Cryer at the Gilded Balloon and Shappi Korsandi at the Pleasance. Good fun. Got a joke to use in my presentation to the students on Friday! Edinburgh was lovely. Just wandering around and taking last minute decisions to do things.

Next year I shall book in somewhere for a few days and really “do” the festival. I can recommend Pollock Halls during the summer too - no students, and reasonably quiet, apart from the All Canada Pipe Band who were staying for the Tattoo and had a ceilidh on Thursday!
